Death wobble is a violent front-end shake after a bump at speed on solid-axle Jeeps like the Wrangler. It usually comes from a worn track bar, ball joints or tie rods — often after lifts or big tires. Warning signs Violent shake after bumps · Wandering steering · Clunks What we do We inspect every front-end joint under load and replace what's worn — not just a steering stabilizer. Colorado Springs: Colorado potholes and trail use wear Jeep front ends fast. Get a shake checked before it gets worse. Why is my Jeep leaking oil from the back of the engine? The 3.6L Pentastar in many Wranglers and Grand Cherokees is known for a leaking plastic oil cooler housing. Warning signs Oil smell · Oil leak at the rear of the engine What we do We confirm the source and replace the housing with the updated part. Why is my Grand Cherokee having electrical problems? On 2011–2013 Grand Cherokees, random electrical faults and no-starts often trace to the TIPM. Warning signs No-start · Fuel pump not running · Random warning lights What we do We test the circuits to confirm it's the TIPM before replacing anything. Why does my Jeep Cherokee shift badly? The 9-speed automatic in 2014-and-newer Cherokees can shift harshly or hesitate — often improved with software updates. Warning signs Harsh shifts · Hesitation · Gear hunting What we do We scan it, check for updates and fluid, and repair what's needed. Do I need to service my Jeep axles after off-roading? Water crossings and hard trail use can contaminate axle and transfer case fluid. Changing it protects the gears. Signs it's due Water crossings · Whine from axles · Milky fluid What we do We service the axles and transfer case with the correct fluids. Not sure what's wrong with your Jeep? Many GMC V8s use Active Fuel Management to shut off cylinders for fuel economy. The special lifters can fail — causing a tick, a misfire and camshaft damage if ignored. Warning signs Ticking · Misfire · Check engine light What we do We replace the failed lifters and can do the permanent fix: non-AFM hardware plus a PCM recalibration so the computer matches. Why is my Acadia showing a cam timing code? On 2007–2012 Acadias with the 3.6L V6, timing chain stretch triggers cam timing codes. Warning signs Check engine light · Cam timing codes · Rough running What we do We confirm chain stretch and replace the chains, guides and tensioners together. Why is my Terrain using oil? Many 2010–2013 Terrains with the 2.4L use oil because the piston rings stick. Warning signs Low oil between changes · Oil light What we do We run an oil consumption test before recommending a repair. Why won't my GMC shift into 4WD? 4WD that won't engage is often a failed transfer case encoder motor, not a failed transfer case. Warning signs 4WD light flashing · Service 4WD message What we do We test the encoder motor and actuator and service the transfer case. Colorado Springs: Find out before the first snow. Outback / Forester / Legacy 1999–2011 · 2.5L • Head gasket leaks • Timing belt service due • Wheel bearing noise Forester / Impreza 2011–2015 • Oil consumption on some engines • CV axle boots Outback / Legacy / Crosstrek CVT models • CVT judder • CVT fluid service overdue WRX Turbo models • Turbo and boost leaks • Clutch wear All Subarus AWD • Mismatched tires can damage the AWD system • Differential fluid overdue Keep it healthy What we tell Subaru owners • Replace all four tires together • Watch coolant on older 2.5L engines • Service the CVT fluid • Check wheel bearings at every service Subaru questions we answer every week Straight answers from our techs Why is my Subaru leaking oil or coolant from the engine? On many 1999–2011 Subarus with the 2.5L boxer, head gaskets are a well-known leak point — oil or coolant seeps externally, and some fail internally. Warning signs Oil or coolant leak · Overheating · Sweet smell · Coolant loss What we do We pressure-test the cooling system and inspect the gaskets before recommending the repair. Why is my Subaru burning oil? Some 2011–2015 Subaru engines use oil between changes, often from the piston rings. Warning signs Low oil between changes · Oil light · Blue smoke What we do We run an oil consumption test to measure it and recommend the right repair. Why does my Subaru CVT judder? A judder or shudder from a stop on a CVT Subaru can be fluid condition or internal wear. Warning signs Judder from a stop · Whine · Hesitation What we do We scan the CVT, check the fluid and for updates, and service or repair it. Why is my Subaru humming at highway speed? A hum that changes with speed on a Subaru is usually a wheel bearing — and Colorado's dirt roads and potholes wear them faster. Warning signs Hum or growl at speed · Changes when turning What we do Colorado Springs: Gravel roads and potholes are hard on Subaru bearings and axles. We find the bad bearing and replace it. Do all four tires really need to match on a Subaru? Yes. Subaru's all-wheel-drive system is sensitive to tire size differences; mismatched tread depth can strain the center differential. Why it matters AWD strain · Driveline noise · Tire wear What we do We check tread depth on all four and tell you whether one tire can be replaced or all four should. Not sure what's wrong with your Subaru? Tell us what it's doing when you book. We diagnose before we repair, and you approve the work before we start. Range Rover 2003–2012 • Air suspension failures • Coolant leaks • Battery drain and electrical faults Range Rover Sport 2006–2013 • Air suspension failures • 5.0L supercharged timing chain wear, 2010–2013 • Coolant pipe leaks LR3 / LR4 2005–2016 • Air suspension compressor and springs • Coolant leaks • Rear differential noise Range Rover / Sport 2013 and newer • Supercharged V6 water pump and coolant leaks • Air suspension • Electrical faults Evoque / Discovery Sport 2012 and newer • Rear drive unit and PTU noise • Battery drain • Coolant leaks Keep it healthy What we tell Land Rover owners • Fix a suspension fault early • Check coolant level often • Keep the battery healthy • Service the transfer case Land Rover questions we answer every week Straight answers from our techs Why is my Land Rover showing a suspension fault? Land Rover air suspension fails as the air springs crack, the compressor wears out, or the valve block leaks — common on the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, LR3 and LR4. Warning signs Suspension fault message · Sitting low · Leaning · Compressor running constantly What we do We diagnose the whole system and replace only the part that's failing. Fix it early — a leak burns out the compressor. Why is my Land Rover losing coolant? Land Rovers commonly leak coolant from plastic pipes and housings, and supercharged V6 engines from 2013 on are known for water pump leaks. Warning signs Low coolant warning · Sweet smell · Overheating · Coolant under the vehicle What we do We pressure-test the cooling system to find the exact source and replace the failed part. Why does my 5.0L supercharged Range Rover rattle on startup? On 2010–2013 5.0L supercharged V8s, a startup rattle is often worn timing chain tensioners and guides. Ignored, it can lead to engine damage. Warning signs Startup rattle · Cam timing codes · Rough idle What we do We confirm it with a scan and inspection and replace the timing components as one job. Why does my Land Rover battery keep dying? Land Rovers have many modules, and one that doesn't go to sleep can drain the battery overnight. A weak battery also triggers a cascade of warning messages. Warning signs Dead battery · Multiple warning lights · Random electrical faults What we do We test the battery and charging system and find the module causing the drain. Colorado Springs: Cold mornings expose a weak battery first — and Land Rovers are sensitive to low voltage. Why is my Evoque or Discovery Sport whining from underneath? On many Evoques and Discovery Sports, a whine or drone from underneath points to the rear drive unit or the power transfer unit (PTU). Common signs Whine at speed · Drone · Clunk on takeoff What we do We diagnose the driveline and service or repair the unit that's failing. Not sure what's wrong with your Land Rover? Every Cummins generation has its own weak spots. This is what we see most in our bays. 5.9L 12-valve 1989–1998 • Killer dowel pin check • Lift pump wear • Very durable mechanical injection 5.9L 24-valve 1998.5–2002 • VP44 injection pump failure • Weak lift pump starving the VP44 • Killer dowel pin check 5.9L common rail 2003–2007 • Injector wear — smoke and rough idle • Fuel supply and pressure faults • Front end wear from diesel weight 6.7L 2007.5–2012 • DPF and regen problems • EGR system faults • Turbo / VGT issues 6.7L 2013–2018 • DEF and NOx sensor faults • DPF and regen problems • Exhaust manifold bolt breakage 6.7L 2019–present • CP4 fuel pump concerns • DEF system faults • Front axle u-joint wear Keep it healthy What we tell Cummins owners • Change fuel filters on schedule • Drain the water separator • Check the lift pump on older trucks • Don't ignore a regen that never finishes Cummins questions we answer every week Straight answers from our techs Why won't my 24-valve 5.9L Cummins start? On 1998.5–2002 24-valve Cummins engines, a no-start or stall is often a failing VP44 injection pump — frequently after a weak lift pump has starved it of fuel. Warning signs Hard start or no start · Stalling · Loss of power · Pump codes What we do We test fuel supply pressure and the VP44, then replace what failed — including the lift pump if it caused it. What is the killer dowel pin on a 5.9L Cummins? On 1989–2002 5.9L Cummins engines, a small dowel pin in the timing case can back out and fall into the gear train. Most owners never know it's there until it causes damage. Why it matters Hidden until it fails · Can damage the timing gears · A simple preventive fix What we do We inspect it and install a tab kit to lock the pin in place — a small job that prevents a big one. Why is my 5.9L common-rail Cummins smoking and idling rough? On 2003–2007 common-rail 5.9L engines, smoke and a rough idle usually point to worn injectors or a fuel supply problem. Warning signs White or black smoke · Rough idle · Misfire · Hard starting · Poor fuel economy What we do We test fuel pressure and injector contribution to find the real cause before replacing parts. Should I worry about the CP4 pump on my 2019+ Cummins? Starting in 2019, the 6.7L Cummins moved to a CP4 high-pressure fuel pump. When a CP4 fails it can send metal through the fuel system, so fuel quality and filter changes matter. Warning signs Hard start · Loss of power · Stalling · Low rail pressure codes What we do We keep up fuel filter service and water separation, and diagnose any fuel-pressure fault before it spreads. Colorado Springs: If it stalls or loses power, stop driving it — running it can spread the damage. Why is my 6.7L Cummins regenerating all the time? On the 6.7L Cummins, frequent regens usually trace to a clogged DPF, a bad sensor, or EGR problems — often made worse by lots of short trips. Warning signs Frequent regens · DPF warning · Reduced power mode · Poor fuel economy What we do We diagnose the sensors and the system, run a service regen when appropriate, and repair what failed. We repair emissions systems — we don't delete them. Why is my 6.7L Cummins losing power when towing? Power loss on a 6.7L is often the turbo — a sticking VGT or actuator — or a boost leak. Exhaust restrictions from a clogged DPF can do it too. Warning signs Loss of power · Slow spool · Black smoke · Check engine light What we do We test boost and the VGT, then clean, repair or replace the turbo — or fix the leak or restriction behind it. Colorado Springs: Towing up long grades is when a sticking turbo shows up first. Not sure what's wrong with your Cummins? Tell us what it's doing when you book. Every Volvo has its own weak spots. This is what we see most in our bays. XC90 2003–present • AWD angle gear wear and leaks on first-generation models • 2016 recall for a coolant hose that could leak onto the exhaust • Sunroof drain clogs letting water into the cabin XC60 2010–present • Oil consumption on 2015–2016 5-cylinder and Drive-E 2.0 engines, which Volvo covered with an extended warranty for a time • AWD angle gear wear on earlier models • 2019–2020 recall for low-pressure fuel pump failure S60 / V60 2001–present • Oil consumption on 2013–2016 turbo engines • PCV oil trap clogging on 5-cylinder engines • Airbag inflator recalls on early S60s XC70 / V70 / S80 1999–2016 • Angle gear failure that quietly leaves the car in front-wheel drive • PCV oil trap clogging, which causes oil leaks at the seals • Timing belt due by age as well as mileage XC40 2019–present • Recall for brake-module software that could disable ABS and stability control • Seat belt retractor recall • Infotainment and electrical glitches owners commonly report Keep it healthy What we tell Volvo owners • Replace the timing belt on schedule, by age as well as miles • Check oil level between changes • Keep sunroof drains clear • Service the AWD angle gear fluid Volvo questions we answer every week Straight answers from our techs Why is my Volvo leaking oil or whistling at idle? On 5-cylinder Volvos, a clogged PCV oil trap builds crankcase pressure. That pressure can cause a whistle and push oil out of seals and gaskets. Warning signs Whistle at idle · Oil around seals · Dipstick pushing up What we do We test crankcase pressure, service the oil trap and breather hoses, and then reseal what leaked. Colorado Springs: short trips in cold weather build moisture in the breather system, so these traps clog faster here. Why is my Volvo burning oil? On 2013–2016 5-cylinder turbo engines and 2015–2016 Drive-E 2.0 engines, worn piston rings are a known cause, and Volvo covered it with an extended warranty for a time. On older 5-cylinders, a clogged PCV oil trap can push oil past the seals. Warning signs Low oil warning · Blue smoke · Oil leaks at seals What we do We run an oil consumption test, check the PCV system, and find out whether it's rings, breather or a leak before anything gets replaced. Is my Volvo's all-wheel drive still working? Not always. The angle gear, which sends power to the rear, can wear out quietly and leave the car driving on its front wheels only. Some failures whine or drone at 20–40 mph. Warning signs Whine at 20–40 mph · Wheelspin on snow · Clunk from the front What we do We check whether power is reaching the rear axle, inspect the angle gear and rear drive unit, and repair the failed part. Why is there water on my Volvo's floor? Clogged sunroof drain tubes are a common cause. Water that can't drain out runs into the cabin and can damage carpet and wiring. Warning signs Wet carpet · Musty smell · Electrical glitches after rain What we do We flow-test and clear the drains, then check for water damage to modules and wiring. Can you work on my Volvo plug-in hybrid? We handle mechanical work on it: brakes, suspension, cooling, the gas engine and fluid service. We don't work on high-voltage batteries or high-voltage systems. Every diesel family has its known weak spots. Whether your truck has one of them takes a real inspection — these are patterns, not a diagnosis. FORD 6.0L Power Stroke, 2003–2007 • The oil cooler clogs first and starves the EGR cooler • A cracked EGR cooler leaks coolant — often with no puddle • Pressure can then push the head gaskets • We fix the whole chain and use head studs when the heads come off FORD 6.7L & 6.4L Power Stroke, 2008 and newer • 6.7L: CP4-style high-pressure fuel pump — clean fuel and filters are the best protection • 6.4L: radiator leaks, fuel dilution and expensive repairs • We tell you honestly what we find FORD 7.3L Power Stroke, 1994–2003 • Usually a durable engine • Camshaft position sensor — sudden no-start or misfire • Harness under the valve covers — intermittent misfire GM LB7 & LLY Duramax, 2001–2005 • LB7: injectors under the valve covers — hard hot starts, smoke at idle, fuel in the oil • A return-fuel test can find a leaking injector before anything comes apart • LLY: runs hot under load, especially towing GM LML Duramax, 2011–2016 • CP4-style high-pressure fuel pump • Water, air or low supply pressure can wear it • A failed pump can send metal through injectors, rails and lines RAM 6.7L CUMMINS Cummins, 2007.5 and newer • Intake grid heater bolt can loosen and drop into the engine • Checking and securing it is a quick job at routine service • Some Ram diesels also use the CP4-style pump RAM 5.9L CUMMINS Cummins, 1989–2007 • 24-valve (1998–2002): VP44 injection pump — heat and low supply pressure are hard on it • 12-valve: the timing cover dowel pin can back out • A healthy lift pump and good fuel pressure help it last Keep it healthy What we tell diesel owners • Change fuel filters and drain the water separator • Never ignore the water-in-fuel light • Let the turbo cool after hard towing • Get it on the highway so it can regenerate GM LBZ & LMM Duramax, 2006–2010 • LBZ: widely regarded as one of the toughest Duramax engines, and it has no DPF • LMM (2007.5+): the first Duramax with a DPF, so short trips load the DPF and EGR with soot • Both use the CP3 pump, not the CP4 • We check regen history, EGR flow and injector balance rates GM L5P Duramax, 2017 and newer • Uses a Denso fuel pump instead of the Bosch CP4 • Most trouble is on the emissions side: DEF quality, DEF heater and NOx sensor faults • SCR and DEF codes can start a derate countdown, so don’t ignore the warning • Factory-level diagnostics and module programming in-house MERCEDES SPRINTER Diesel vans and fleets • Oil leaks around the oil cooler on the 3.0L V6 are a common complaint • NOx sensor, DEF and EGR faults that put the van in limp mode • Glow plug failures show up on cold Colorado mornings • Factory-level module programming in-house DIESEL QUESTIONS WE ANSWER EVERY WEEK Straight answers from our techs WHAT DIESELS DO YOU WORK ON? Ford Power Stroke 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L; GM Duramax LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML and L5P; Ram Cummins 5.9L and 6.7L; Isuzu NPR gas and diesel; Mercedes Sprinter vans; and diesel motorhomes and fleet trucks. WE SEE Daily drivers · Hot-shot haulers · Construction fleets · RV owners What we do Customers come from Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security-Widefield, Monument, Manitou Springs, Falcon, Peyton, Calhan, Pueblo, Fort Carson and Peterson SFB. Colorado Springs: Altitude, long grades and cold mornings add their own load. We service diesels with that in mind. HOW DOES WESTCO DIAGNOSE A DIESEL? We start with factory-level scan tools for Ford, GM and Cummins, then test before we replace anything: fuel pressure, injector balance, compression, crankcase pressure and cooling system pressure, depending on the complaint. WE TEST Fuel pressure · Injector balance · Crankcase pressure · Cooling system What we do You see what we found — photos and data — and you approve the work before we start. Colorado Springs: Not sure what is wrong? Describe it when you book. We diagnose before we repair. DO YOU DELETE EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT? No. Westco does not remove or disable EGR, DPF, DEF/SCR or catalyst systems. We diagnose why they are failing and repair them. COMMON ROOT CAUSES Injectors · Sensors · Short-trip driving · Missed regenerations What we do Shopping a truck that has already been deleted? We tell you what we see and what it can mean for registration, emissions testing and resale. We’re not lawyers, so confirm the legal side with the state. DO YOU WORK ON FLEETS AND DO DOT INSPECTIONS? Yes. We maintain diesel pickups, vans, box trucks and Isuzu NPRs for local businesses, and we perform DOT annual inspections in-house. FLEET WORK Scheduled maintenance · DOT annual inspections · Box trucks and NPRs · Work vans What we do See our Fleet Service page for how we keep work trucks on the road. CAN YOU HANDLE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY CLAIM? Yes. We take down what the truck is doing, verify coverage with your provider by VIN and name, diagnose it, submit the claim, then go over the approval with you before any repair starts. HOW IT WORKS Your complaint · Coverage check · Diagnosis and claim · Approval, then repair What we do You know what is covered and what is not before we pick up a wrench. Colorado Springs: Bring your warranty paperwork or contract number when you book. CAN YOU INSPECT A USED DIESEL BEFORE I BUY IT? Yes. Our pre-purchase diesel inspection can include a relative compression test, injector balance test, fuel supply pressure test, crankcase pressure check, DPF soot load and regeneration history, and a turbo shaft play check. WE ALSO CHECK Grid heater bolt on 6.7L Cummins · Cooling system pressure · Codes in every module · Turbo shaft play · Service history What we do You get photos and test results, so you know exactly what you are buying before you commit. WHAT IS THE CP4 FUEL PUMP PROBLEM? The Ford 6.7L, GM LML Duramax and some Ram diesels use a CP4-style high-pressure fuel pump that is lubricated by the fuel itself. Water, air or low supply pressure can wear it, and a bad failure can send metal through the injectors, rails and lines. BEST PROTECTION Clean fuel · Filters on schedule · Healthy supply pressure · Drain the water separator What we do We can talk through prevention options for your truck at your next service. WHY IS MY 6.0L POWER STROKE LOSING COOLANT? On many 6.0L trucks the oil cooler clogs first. That starves the EGR cooler of coolant flow, the EGR cooler can crack and leak coolant, and a pressurized cooling system can eventually push head gaskets. WARNING SIGNS Coolant loss, no puddle · White smoke · Residue at the degas cap · Rising oil temps What we do We fix the chain from the start — oil cooler, EGR cooler, coolant — and use head studs when the heads come off. HOW CAN I MAKE MY DIESEL LAST LONGER? Let it idle a minute or two before driving, especially when cold. After hard towing, let the turbo cool before shutting down. Change fuel filters on schedule and never ignore the water-in-fuel light. ALSO Highway runs to regenerate · Don’t run the tank low · Quality filters · Drain the separator WHAT WE DO We set a service schedule that fits how you actually use the truck — daily driving, towing or fleet work. NOT SURE WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOUR DIESEL? Tell us what it's doing when you book. We diagnose before we repair, and you approve the work before we start. A DOT inspection is the annual federal periodic inspection required for commercial motor vehicles under 49 CFR 396.17. We do these in-house on all types of trucks. We don't inspect semi trailers. THE BASICS What is a DOT annual inspection? It's a once-a-year safety inspection of a commercial vehicle against the federal minimum standards in Appendix A to 49 CFR Part 396. HOW IT WORKS The rule: 49 CFR 396.17 says every commercial motor vehicle a motor carrier controls must pass a periodic inspection of every component in Appendix A at least once every 12 months. Who can do it: the carrier can inspect its own vehicles, or use a commercial garage like ours. Either way, the inspector has to meet the qualifications in 49 CFR 396.19. Appendix A vs. Appendix G: older paperwork and many websites still call the standard 'Appendix G.' FMCSA moved it to Appendix A to Part 396 in 2021. It's the same standard under a new name. WHAT WESTCO DOES We inspect every Appendix A item that applies to your vehicle, write up the results, and give you the report and decal for your records. FLEET SERVICE → WHO NEEDS IT Does my truck count as a commercial motor vehicle? Under federal rules, probably, if it runs in interstate commerce and has a GVWR or GCWR of 10,001 lb or more. Colorado's line for intrastate-only work may be different, so check your own situation. THE THRESHOLDS Federal definition (49 CFR 390.5): a vehicle used on a highway in interstate commerce to carry passengers or property is a CMV if its GVWR, GCWR, gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight is 10,001 lb or more. Certain passenger and hazmat vehicles also count. Trailers count toward the combination: a pickup pulling a trailer can go over 10,001 lb GCWR even when the truck alone doesn't. Colorado intrastate: Colorado has its own motor carrier rules for intrastate-only work, with their own thresholds and exceptions. Confirm your status with Colorado State Patrol Motor Carrier Safety. WHAT WESTCO DOES We can inspect your truck whether you're required to or just want the peace of mind. Your regulatory status is between you and the State Patrol or FMCSA. Colorado Springs: lots of local contractors run a 1-ton pickup with a gooseneck or equipment trailer. Add up the truck's GVWR and the trailer's rating before you assume you're exempt. PAPERWORK What paperwork do I get, and how long do I keep it? You get a written inspection report and a decal. Federal rules say to keep the report for 14 months from the inspection date. WHAT THE RULES SAY The report (49 CFR 396.21): it names the inspector and the motor carrier, gives the date, identifies the vehicle, lists the components inspected and the results, and certifies the inspection. Retention: keep the original or a copy for 14 months from the inspection date, where the vehicle is housed or maintained. On the vehicle: proof of inspection has to be on the vehicle. A decal works if it shows the date, the carrier's name and address, the vehicle, and that it passed. WHAT WESTCO DOES Every report comes with photos. Fleet accounts can have us keep a record of each unit's inspection history so due dates don't sneak up on you. FLEET SERVICE → THE INSPECTION WHAT GETS CHECKED ON A DOT INSPECTION? We go through every Appendix A group that applies to your truck. APPENDIX A TO PART 396 Which systems does the federal standard cover? The standard is organized into inspection groups. Most trucks use all of the main ones; a couple only apply to vehicles with that equipment. THE GROUPS Brake system: service and parking brakes, adjustment (pushrod stroke), air or hydraulic leaks, hoses and lines, drums, rotors and linings, low-air warning, compressor and ABS where equipped. Coupling devices: fifth wheels, pintle hooks, drawbars, safety chains and their mounts. Exhaust system: leaks ahead of or below the cab, and exhaust parts close enough to burn wiring, fuel or brake lines. Fuel system: leaks, tank mounting and fuel caps. Lighting devices: every required light and reflector, working and the right color. Safe loading: cargo securement, and anything that could fall or shift. Steering mechanism: wheel free play, column, gearbox, pitman arm, tie rods and drag links, power steering. Suspension: axle parts, springs, U-bolts, torque and radius arms, air suspension. Frame: cracks, sagging, loose or missing fasteners, and tires or wheels rubbing the frame. Tires: tread depth (4/32" on steer tires, 2/32" on the others), cuts, bulges, exposed cord, flats and leaks. Wheels and rims: cracks, loose or missing lugs, and damaged rims. Windshield and wipers: cracks in the driver's view, and working wipers. Where equipped: motorcoach seats and rear impact guards. WHAT WESTCO DOES We photograph anything that fails or is close to the limit, so you can see exactly what we saw. BRAKE REPAIR → FAILURES WHY DO TRUCKS FAIL DOT INSPECTIONS? Most failures come from a short list of things, and most of them are fixable the same day. WHAT WE SEE MOST What are the most common reasons a truck fails? Lights, brake adjustment, tires, leaks and steering play. Hardly anything exotic. TOP 5 Lights: burned-out marker, clearance or brake lights, corroded trailer plugs and broken lenses. Brake adjustment: on air-brake trucks, pushrod stroke past the limit. On hydraulic trucks, worn pads and shoes, leaking calipers or wheel cylinders, or a parking brake that won't hold. Tires: steer tires under 4/32", others under 2/32", sidewall cuts, bulges or exposed cord. Leaks: air, brake fluid, fuel, and exhaust leaks near the cab. Steering play: worn tie rod ends, drag links or steering boxes. WHAT WESTCO DOES Before your inspection, walk around the truck with the lights and flashers on, and look at the tires. That alone catches a lot of failures. Colorado Springs: mag chloride on winter roads is hard on trailer wiring, light sockets and brake parts. Corroded connections are a common light failure on local trucks. BRAKE REPAIR → REPAIRS What happens if my truck fails? We show you what failed with photos, give you the repair estimate, and fix it in the same visit when we can. HOW WE HANDLE IT Photo proof: you see the actual failed part, not just a line on a form. Same-visit repairs: lights, brake parts, tires, leaks and steering parts can often be fixed while the truck is already here. Warranty: repairs we do come with our 24-month/24,000-mile warranty. Your call: nothing gets repaired without your approval. WHAT WESTCO DOES Once the repairs are done, we finish the inspection and give you the passing report and decal.
