Kia questions we answer every week
Straight answers from our techs
Why is my Kia engine knocking?
Many 2011–2019 Kias with the 2.0T and 2.4L Theta II engines can develop rod-bearing knock that leads to engine failure. Many are covered by recalls or extended warranties.
Warning signs
Knocking that rises with RPM · Oil light · Stalling · Loss of power
What we do
We diagnose it and check your VIN for recalls or extended coverage before anything else.
Colorado Springs: Stop driving an engine that knocks — continuing can seize it.
Why is my Kia using oil?
Some Kia GDI engines use oil between changes, which can starve the engine if the level drops too low.
Warning signs
Low oil between changes · Oil light · Blue smoke
What we do
We run an oil consumption test and recommend the right repair.
What is carbon buildup on a Kia GDI engine?
Direct-injection engines don't wash the intake valves with fuel, so carbon builds up over time and causes rough running.
Warning signs
Rough idle · Cold-start misfire · Lost power
What we do
We inspect first and clean the valves only when carbon is actually affecting how it runs.
Why is my Kia Soul losing power?
Power loss on a Soul can be misfires, a failing catalytic converter, or engine wear from low oil.
Warning signs
Loss of power · Misfire · Check engine light
What we do
We scan it and test to find the real cause.
Does Westco do Kia recall and warranty checks?
We check your VIN for open recalls and extended coverage on every Kia before recommending engine work.
What we check
Open recalls · Extended warranties · Service history
What we do
If it's covered, we tell you — and point you to the right place.
