The CVT is the conversation

Most Nissan questions we get come back to the continuously variable transmission. Instead of fixed gears it uses a belt running between two variable pulleys, and the failure people describe is a shudder, a whine, or the engine revving without the car accelerating the way it should.

Why fluid matters more here than on a normal automatic

Going off what we have read on these, CVT fluid is not a generic product and the transmission depends on it heavily for both cooling and the friction behaviour of the belt on the pulleys. Heat is the enemy, and a CVT that has spent its life towing, climbing, or sitting in traffic in the heat has had a harder time than the odometer suggests.

Colorado is a climbing state. That is worth factoring in when you read a service history.

Timing chain guides on the 2.5

On the QR25DE four cylinder, the item most often described is the timing chain guide wearing and the chain going slack, which shows up as a rattle on a cold start that quiets once oil pressure comes up. Nine times out of ten that noise is worth investigating rather than living with.

See it cold if you can. Things tighten up once everything is warm and flowing, and a warm engine can hide a noise that is plain at first start.

What to do before spending money

On any Nissan with a transmission complaint, the order matters: confirm what the transmission is actually doing, check for stored faults across the modules rather than just the engine, and find out what has already been done to it. A repair decided before the diagnosis is a guess with an invoice attached.
